Our first stop was Voodoo Doughnuts. We first saw this on the Travel Channel a few years ago, and have tried to go there on our past few trips, but just never made it. When we arrived, the line was extremely long and wrapped down the side of the building. But they are very efficient and we ended up waiting about 20 minutes or so.
Here are some of the amazing concoctions they have. We bought mango filled ones, Oreos drizzled with peanut butter, maple bacon car (our favorite), Fruit Loops, custard filled, and the signature Voodoo Doughnut. It's a little man filled with raspberry filling, and a pretzel stake through him.
While Jose was waiting in line for the doughnuts, I went over to Big Ass Sandwiches, which was right across the street. This was also something we had seen recently on the Travel Channel. They did a special on the best sandwiches in the United States, and this location won the best in the Pacific Northwest. It's a small little food truck, and the wait there took longer than the doughnuts, but it was so worth it!
This sandwich is roasted turkey on a ciabatta bun, French Fries, and a homemade Bechamel Sauce. The one they showed on the Travel Channel was roast beef and had onions and hot sauce on it. But I loved this one and can't wait to go back and try more. It is definitely a must do on every Oregon trip!
Next up we stopped by the Heathman Hotel. This is another place mentioned in the 50 Shades of Gray books, so I had to stop by.
We spent the rest of the afternoon at a scrapbooking store and going to Fred Meyer. We spent almost 3 hours at Fred Meyer and both got a ton of clothes there! There is no sales tax in Oregon, so we were able to buy a lot and basically save the 8% we would normally pay in Colorado.
When we got back to their house, they were all playing with the kids next door, Erica and Bryce. Jasmine kept calling Erica her best friend.
A few hours later, about 20 people came over and we all had a BBQ. It was a lot of fun seeing everyone and the food was delicious.
This was the first time we have ever let Jordan taste lemonade, and the first time we have given her anything in a can. She thought it was the greatest thing in the world, and ended up stealing Jasmine's can and double fisting it!
Some of the kids playing and coloring in the family room. They kept bringing us cards and saying they were working and it was their business cards.
We took a final picture with Hillary, Sophia, and Fiona. We cruised with them last October and the girls got along just great. We are going on another cruise together with them in April, 2013, and the girls are excited to get to play together again.
Our last day there was spent packing and relaxing. We took one final picture of the girls with the tree outside in the front yard. They loved mimicking the face on the front.
It was a wonderful trip. I think it was by far the best trip we have ever taken to Oregon. The girls did so well for all of the long car rides and I didn't do too bad myself, considering I HATE being in the car. It was so nice to get to see so much of Jose's family, since the girls have really only ever been around my side of the family in Colorado.
We are already planning another trip next summer so that we can spend more time in Seattle. We really enjoyed our time there and can't wait to get some more sightseeing in. We are also hoping to drive up to Canada for a few days since all of us have passports and it is only another 2 hours away.
